Do you mean the preview pane?  Can you please attach a screenshot
(editing your private data)?

Unfortunately this part is not useful (did you use reportbug?), can you
please attach the output of `reportbug --template kmail`?

You got me thinking. In my case I solved it by installing kmail from experimental. And kmail was uninstalled, so I must have screwed up at update time, letting kmail getting removed.
