although it's installed as a rather inconvenient location ( /usr/lib/*/ libexec/kf5/kdesu ).

To run it using kdesu you'll need to run:

/usr/lib/*/libexec/kf5/kdesu dolphin

I'm closing this issue now, as it seems to be working for you. I'm still unsure about moving kdesu to a more visible location.
