https://packages.debian.org/sid/kdevelop-python gives the description
of this package as "Python 3 plugin for KDevelop". Normally IIUC
python3 related packages are marked as python3 and not just as python.

kdevelop-python is a kdevelop plugin, not a Python module.

I submit that it would be advisable to rename the package as
kdevelop-python3

The plugin is named after "python", not "python3", hence the current
package naming. So no, there will not be any package rename.

and instead package the Python 2 plugin as kdevelop-python.

(Should I report a separate bug asking for Py 2 plugin?)

There will not be any Python 2 version in Debian, since it used an
embedded (and modified) copy of python which is totally no-no
for the archive.

Thanks for your report,
