Bug#614521: kdm: black screen with visible mouse when plugging power supply in after hibernation
Package: kdm
Version: 4:4.8.4-6
Followup-For: Bug #614521
Dear Maintainer,
I´m experiencing this in wheezy. The bug is triggered for me by logging out from KDE (restart of kdm).
I thought this might be a video driver problem, however, if it happens with the proprietary Nvidia driver
this is not the case. I´m using the open source radeon driver with firmware-linux-nonfree (KMS support).
So far this didn´t happen when changing to a tty and back to X, but this might be because of KMS.
I wouldn´t say, this bug is important, because kdm is still functional. As a workaround you can activate
X zapping and restart X by ctrl+alt+backspace. You would need the following configuration files.
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev:
Section "InputClass"
Identifier "evdev keyboard catchall"
MatchIsKeyboard "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "evdev"
Option "XkbOptions" "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
EndSection
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-dontzap
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "DontZap" "false"
EndSection
Usually the password field should already have focus, but if you want to change the user it might get annoying.
It does not seem to be a problem with the power supply. I do get this every time on ac. I can´t check,
if this happens also after hibernation, because most of the times I hit another bug, where the screen
gets completely corrupted (kdm is restartable, but the session is lost of course).
I might file another bug report for that. It also does not seem to have something to do with the kwin renderer.
I get this also, when kwin desktop effects are disabled (alt+shift+f12). As I get this also, when no KDE
session is running, I doubt, that powerdevil or kwin have to do something with it, but a black screen has
often something to do with the OpenGL renderer. I´m afraid not this time.
So these are my findings. Feel free to comment. Maybe a forced X restart on logout could bypass this bug.
