As you have noticed, we lack manpower to dig into all the bugs. In this specific case it's an upstream bug which we Debian maintainers can't solve. The correct thing to do in this case is to fill the bug upstream, which you already did, so thanks *a lot* for that. Be sure we will apply the fix once it gets fixed upstream.
