Bug#701771: kdebase-workspace: kdebase/nepomukserver service failure
Package: kdebase-workspace
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
Since my clean install of Wheezy Nov 10th 2012, kdebase/nepomukserver has been
failing me. I started with a clean ~/.kde, and do not use kmail/akonadi. One
of the few 100% essential desktop functions I need is full-text search.
When nepomuk fails, clicking on its tray icon brings up the "Nepomuk Repository
Details" which says that the file indexing service is not running. Ps xa
disagrees.
Wow. Oddly enough, I found a workaround. Nepomuk tray icon, configure file
indexing -> enable nepomuk semantic desktop. I unchecked this, waited a few
seconds, and checked it. Strangely enough nepomuk/strigi started indexing my
files again. In the past I've had to remove the storage backend from somewhere
in my ~/.kde.
This bug pops up about once every two weeks, no matter what I do. Yes, even
with the stock kernel.
Kind regards,
Nick
