Package: phonon Version: 4:4.6.0really4.4.2-1 Severity: important *** Please type your report below this line *** I am trying to get the sound running in Squeeze (Testing) on 3 different PC's with same mainboard but different sound cards. On this PC's there is also a installation of Debian Lenny (stable) and the sound is working without problems with ALSA!With 3 + 1 PC's i have generally sound in Squeeze now after trying out some configuration, but it works only perfect on 1 PC. That's the reason i marked this bug report as important.
I also discussed this problem in the german Debian forum without success: http://debianforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=122530 http://debianforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=125780 It seems that nobody really knows how phonon is working and how to solve such problems? Here a short overview: ====================== PC 1: ----- $ lspci 02:09.0 Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq 5880B [AudioPCI] (rev 02) With this older soundblaster card the sound works directly perfect. :-) PC2: ---- $ lsusb Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0d8c:0201 C-Media Electronics, Inc. CM6501 This is the onboard sound of the Asrock mainboard AM2NF3-VSTA (3 PC's). My description in the forum mainly is about this chipset. The old ALSA-configuration of Lenny has no effect to the problem. I could get the sound only running by choosing ALSA-Sound with PnP Audio-device in the configuration of VLC !? Now it plays sound with MP3's and videos. But there is no sound with flash in the browser and in Virtual machines with Virtualbox. I attached the error message of Virtualbox (NoAudio.png). There is no sound with every sound device i choose in Virtualbox? PC3: ---- This PC has an old Terratec Sixpack soundcard with CS4630 chipset. http://debianforum.de/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=124547 I have successfully rebuild the firmware but there is no sound on the analog ports and on IEC859. The only thing that works is an aplay on the analog output. PC4: ---- This is a new PC with an other mainboard and a new soundblaster card (Creative Labs CA0106 Soundblaster). Here it is also not possible to get the sound working for applications. One time there was only a noise output by starting the KDE-session. And today i could get the analog sound working with an aplay on hw1,0 Maybe here is the problem that there is a additional sound device on the ATI graphics card? I attached 2 files for PC4 with the current configuration of a new Squeeze installation. Summarizing i can say that ALSA is basically working, but phonon will not play with it for the standard output. So i think it is a problem of the configuration? The configuration "alsactl init" also does not get it working. How does phonon interact with ALSA and where it is configured? Any hints or help to solve the problems would be wonderful. And i think it also helps to solve the problems of many other users.
