Bug#608129: kdm: KDM Login to KDE fails after Upgrade/Installlation of Squeeze Beta 2
I've looked at this a bit more and it does not appear to be what it at
first seemed.
The X server log is a separate issue: this is something to do with
terminating the X session and is nothing to do with why KDE crashes on
login. This issue is logged, at least once, in BTS against
xserver-xorg-video-sis.
I don't think this is a kaboom issue either. It appears to be a
failsafe issue.
The following ought to be simple enough to reproduce ...
- create a brand new user id
- from the kdm login screen ... select failsafe session and try to log
in as the new user
** kaboom - X session crashes **
- reboot
- from the kdm login screen ... select default session and try to log in
as the new user
- success, kaboom runs to completion and after a good cup of coffee so
does the fast search thing
- reboot
- from the kdm login screen ... select failsafe session and try to log
in as the new user
** kaboom - X session crashes **
The contents of .xsession-errors after each crash looks something like:
Xsession: X session started for joe at Tue Jan 4 15:59:55 GMT 2011
konsole(1691)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction "change-profile"
with KXMLGUIFactory!
x-terminal-emulator: ../../src/xcb_io.c:385: _XAllocID: Assertion `ret
!= inval_id' failed.
KCrash: Application 'x-terminal-emulator' crashing...
Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory
KCrash cannot reach kdeinit, launching directly.
drkonqi: cannot connect to X server :0.0
I hope this helps with the triage.
