Bug#540735: in my case

FWIW... due to a mess with my installation
(quite a bit of mix of outdated squeeze/sid/experimental) at first
running

$> kcmshell4 system-config-printer-kde
KCrash: Application 'kcmshell4' crashing...
sock_file=/home/yoh/.kde/socket-novo/kdeinit4__0

lead to crash, "developer information" window lists

Application: KDE Control Module (kcmshell4), signal: Segmentation fault
[KCrash Handler]
#5  0x00007ff1fa5ac1f0 in strlen () from /lib/libc.so.6
#6  0x00007ff1ef8f46bf in PyString_FromFormatV (format=0x7ff1ed688308 "the sip module implements API v%d.0 but the %s module requires API v%d.%d", vargs=0x7fff585d9350)

I have

ii kdebase-runtim 4:4.3.0-2 runtime components from the official KDE 4 r
ii python-sip4 4.8.1-1 Python/C++ bindings generator runtime librar
ii  sip4           4.8.1-1        Python/C++ bindings generator

and indeed, upgrade of
sudo apt-get install python-kde4=4:4.3.0-1
helped to get to the bug:

$> kcmshell4 system-config-printer-kde
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/kde4/apps/system-config-printer-kde/system-config-printer-kde.py", line 68, in <module>

ImportError: cannot import name options

apparently in debian we have 1.0.0-6 of system-config-printer whenever upstream
has 1.1.11 already on
http://cyberelk.net/tim/data/system-config-printer/1.1/ ... I thought it might
be a problem... downloaded new upstream, uupdated but unfortunately patches
puked on the first one (and there is quite a bit of the other patches)...
bugs.debian.org for some reason is unresponsive for me atm so can't check what
is the status -- but thought to share
