I also wish to confirm that the workaround provided fixed the
problem. My current versions are:

ii  xserver-xorg                         1:7.4+4
ii  xserver-xorg-video-intel             2:2.9.0-1
ii  kdm                                  4:4.3.1-1

Please let me know if additional information is needed.
