Using kde desktop' "extract" contextual menu to decompress tbz2 files take roughly twice as long as the equivalent tar xjf command.  Top reports three 
related running processes:  ark, using roughly 50% CPU; bunzip2 also around 50% and tar around 2%.
Noticed on a P3-850.
I know that the GUI animation comes with a cost, but 50% CPU seems abusive.

This has improved in KDE 4.1, still is slower (and it will always be), though.
