patching kdelibs
Hi,
Please forgive me if I'm sending this to the wrong address. I'm still
learning Debian's protocols.
I'm working on a product that is based in-part on Debian's version of
kdelibs (using Etch's 3.5.5a.dfsg.1 for stability, but I believe the
same questions would apply to Sid's 3.5.9.dfsg.1). I'm extending
KHTML with new features. When the product is released in a few months
the source code will be available and I'll offer the patches here (or
where appropriate) and to upstream KDE.
In the meantime, I want to create a smooth way of creating and
managing patches with Debian's kdelibs package. With the features
I've added so far, I've modified both regular source files and the
patch files in debian/patches. Obviously not the "right" way to do
it. But not being a Debian developer, I'm not sure what the right way
is. Is there any documentation on how to create a new Debian patch
similar to what is described for quilt further down in
http://lwn.net/Articles/280471/
Would there be any value in using quilt in the build system? If I
were to adapt kdelibs to use quilt, would the Debian developers be
interested in incorporating the change?
