It seems a bit odd to me to suspect an Ubuntu customization when the bug
happens in Debian.

Duh, I obviously meant Debian :)

I reinstalled the official QT version and deleted libuiminputcontextplugin -- and the infinite loop disappeared. So I can confirm that libuiminputcontextplugin is the culprit somehow.
