It seems older debhelper doesn't like it.
Gutsy is shipped with debhelper 5.0.51.
Latest debhelper is 7.0.9.

We already ship phonon from kdelibs (KDE 4) sources:
libphonon-dev | 4:4.0.2-1+b1 |      unstable   |
