17 Jul 2007: suggestions for KNotes. Originally sent to Wynn Wilkes

Dear Mr Wilkes,
as you may guess, I've chosen KNotes as my preferred sticky notes
application. I, like many others, depend much on the concept of sticky
notes. At the moment I am making the transition from Windows (where I
use StickyNotes) to Xandros/Linux while finding the software tools to
make this possible. Please realise that most Windows users will keep
their Windows system in a dual-boot situation.
So it occurred to me that KNotes could be extended considerably in its
usefulness, at little programming cost.
One of the problems of sticky notes is that they are lost when the
system reverts to a previous backup. It is adamant therefore that sticky
notes have a mirror text file outside the Linux partition, in a user's
'own work' partition for instance. The save-as option can do this.
However, it would be more helpful if each sticky note remembered the
path and filename of this mirror file and that the CTRL+S key
automatically saves to this file.
At the moment I replenish sticky notes by copying from a text file and
then pasting over the sticky note. It is obvious that a CTRL+O open-file
command would help considerably.
One step further would be if KNotes at startup compared the mirror-file
date-time stamp with latest timestamp and uploaded the new information
automatically, with a confirmation prompt. This would lead to perfect
Windows-Linux interoperability where sticky notes automatically
synchronise between the two systems: changes made in Linux showing in
Windows and vice-versa.
That brings me to the final bit: would it be possible to compile KNotes
for Windows in order to achieve perfect synchronicity? It would be so
perfect.
Best regards and thanks for this nice product.
