It looks like changes made with kmenuedit to menu entries are ignored both 
when running the menu entry and when starting kmenuedit again.
The changes _are_ saved in ~/.local/share/applications, but this file is never 
read.

Probable cause is the use of a symlink for /etc/xdg/menus/debian-menu.menu.

I've already filed a bug with kde.org [1], hence the tag 'upstream', but they 
may consider it a Debian packaging bug.
