After reinstalling a machine and copying over my bookmarks.xml file
(~230KB) I noticed most of my bookmarks lacked favicons. Unfortunately
merely selecting the top of the bookmark tree and updating all favicons
doesn't seem to work reliably. Icons sometimes require multiple attempts to
successfully update, and occasionally a bookmark will receive the icon of
an adjacent entry. And it will mysteriously stop trying to update the
bookmarks after a couple of dozen or so. Updating favicons also seems to be
unusually CPU intensive.
