I just clicked on the magnifying glass with the small square below it - and selected the area I wanted to see. And then I only saw what I had selected. I also afterwards tried the plain magnifying glass without squares or plus/minus - then I changed only one of the values and I got axis that fitted. Zoom in + zoom out also seems to work.
