Yes, it wasn't, because eject (aka "safely remove" in this case) used to 
*fail* silently instead (and no, unmounting was done before as it is done 
now). So "Safely remove" was completely broken before (for you), now it is 
only partialy b0rked (this error message is harmless and you can safely 
unplug your usb stick). To workaround the problem, add yourself to 'disk' 
group (!!!dangerous from the security perspective!!!) or do what Sune said 
(safe).

Somebody should NMU udev for this bug if maintainer does not intend to fix the 
problem anytime soon.
