Bug#364448: 'mv kmail kmail_old' doesn't fix the problem for me
I've had the same problem as described above... but 'mv kmail kmail_old' doesn't fix the problem for me.
The error message I got when starting kmail from the konsole was:
-----
michael@cobalamin:~$ kmail
kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::plugAccel(): call to deprecated action.
kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::plugAccel( kacc = 0x819d108 ): KAccel object already contains an action name "delete"

michael@cobalamin:~$ KCrash: Application 'kmail' crashing...
-----
I renamed the kmail directory:
michael@cobalamin:~/.kde/share/apps$ mv kmail kmail_backup
(As it suggested this might help.)
After, kmail started, recreated a the 'kmail' directory. However, the remote
folder (after login to the email server) was called "1917657295".
When I clicked on the remote folder I found that the messages were NOT
all there; the message count on kmail is 866. When I access the email
directly (through a web browser) -- https://my.utoronto.ca/scgi-bin/login.cgi
the count in the inbox is 928.
When I closed kmail I got "The KDE Crash Handler" window with the following:
-----
Short description
The application KMail (kmail) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
What is this?
An application mostly receives the SIGSEGV signal due to a bug in the application. The application was asked to save its documents.
-----
After re-starting and shutdowning kmail a couple to times (to see if the shutdown crash
was reproducible) kmail would not start anymore and gave me the same 'KDE Crash Handler'
message as above.
If I start kmail from konsole I get the following:
-----
michael@cobalamin:~/.kde/share/apps/kmail$ kmail
kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::plugAccel(): call to deprecated action.
kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::plugAccel( kacc = 0x8199d20 ): KAccel object already contains an action name "delete"

What I did next...
Next I renamed the broken 'kmail' directory:
-----
michael@cobalamin:~/.kde/share/apps$ mv kmail kmail_broken_empty
-----
Then I started kmail from the command line:

Interesting is that when kmail opened my name reappeared where '1917657295' used to be.
When I closed kmail again-- it crashed like described above:
-----
Short description
The application KMail (kmail) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
What is this?
An application mostly receives the SIGSEGV signal due to a bug in the application. The application was asked to save its documents.
-----
At this stage I don't think kmail is usable...
'mv kmail kmail_old' is a very temporary fix and not workable in my
opinion.
The reoccurance of the error after deleting the 'kmail' directory suggests the bug/problem may be at program start-up & shutdown and is possibly related to a configuration file of some sort.
