Bug#310637: kde does not start

I retested after blowing away my .kde* and .qt* files/dirs. Now when
try startkde it stops at the following

startkde: Running kpersonalizer...
+ dcopserver
+ kwin --lock
+ kpersonalizer --before-session

then it hangs. Could it be something with locking? because now the
defunct process I see is

bradshaw 27531 0.0 2.1 21872 10916 pts/0 D 09:40 0:00 kwin --lock

thanks for the suggestions
Rick
