I am reassigning this bug to xserver-xfree86, as it is the xserver that is 
crashing when reset by kdm.

note to X Strike Force: the original reporters were experiencing a problem 
with kdm not restarting due to a bug in libnss-ldap.  That was fixed, but 
Thijs was still having the problem.  It appears from his daemon.log that 
the xserver was crashing upon being reset by kdm.  Having kdm restart 
rather than reset the xserver works around his problem.
