Bug#256862: KDE "Menu Editor" doesn't edit the menu.

I have the same problem using debian-testing (kde 3.2.2). I have not tried
adding or removing entries/submenus, but editing menus does not work. I
followed the instructions have attached file1 and file2, i have not attached
file3 as there was no diff (so i dont see a reason to attach an empty file),
but will provide it if you want.

When following your second suggest, the first time i ran kmenuedit after
moving the applications-kmenuedit.menu out of the way, the entry i was trying
to edit (MPlayer) was still there, and i changed it and saved the menu.
however, when i ran kmenuedit again, the entry was missing entirely.

Here are the steps i follow to edit a menu entry:
run: kmenuedit
expand "Multimedia", select "MPlayer", delete text in the "Command" field:
"/usr/bin/gmplayer < /dev/null", type in new text: "mplayer" select
file->save, the "updating system configuration" dialog appears, the progress
bar goes to 100% and then the dialog closes itself. then i select
file->quit.

when i run kmenuedit again or try to use konqueror to open a file with
mplayer, it goes back to using gmplayer (in kmenuedit, the command string is
the same as it was originally).
