Bug#228509: kdebase-bin: kde does not show splash window after kdm login

When X is configured for 1024x768 8bpp on my cirrus 54xx, after kdm login, kde does not show
the splash window. It shows instead a little vertical line in the center of the screen (I guess
that the line is just the collapsed border of an empty splah window, but I'm not sure).
