I had prepared an updated package that just discarded the existing git
tree and imported the current debian/ directory onto the new upstream
after giving up trying to sort out what of the 1000+ commits in the
debian fork are still relevant and need converted to quilt patches.  I
spoke with Adam Conrad on irc maybe two weeks ago now, and he said he
would block out some paid time to sort that out to prevent any
regressions.

How is that coming Adam?
