To Debian Quality Assurance -
I thought you would find it interesting that I can
depend on Debian to always install properly, even on unusual
machines.
I have an old HP Kayak XU model with 512MB of RAM
that somebody gave me because it didn't work. The 10GB hard drive was
dying.
It will boot only from internal SCSI or external
USB. I found an old full height 47GB SCSI Seagate drive and an old SCSI
CD-R that I installed. A number of other distros of Linux wouldn't install
on it at all from the CD-R. They threw error messages during the earliest
installation steps. CentOS would install, but not properly. Debian is the
champ - installs every time on any computer. I should have started with it. I
also have it running on an old blue and white Macintosh G3.
Feel free to quote me.
By the way, I used a NetInstall CD that I
downloaded and burned.
Versions that wouldn't install from the CD-R:
PCLinuxOS 2007 and 2009.2, Linux Mint 6, Mandriva 2008.1. Puppy Linux would
install, but it doesn't have OpenOffice and I didn't want to take the time to
find out if it would download and install in Puppy Linux. It is good for a
really old machine with little memory though. I use it for backing up
Windows machines, etc.
