Candidates for removal

These packages are candidates for removal by virtue of having
been sitting in unstable without being in 'testing' for very long periods.
It has a few false positives for packages which were kicked out of testing
recently, but they are pretty good candidates too.

This is based on http://bjorn.haxx.se/debian/oldest.html. I have included
only packages with RC bugs in this list, and I have also excluded
the whole libroxen mishmash (something should be done about that, though)
and all the lg-* packages, as well as packages with "keep this out of
testing" bugs.

1671 days: scandetd (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Bradley Alexander]
Potential removal bug already filed by Marc Brockschmidt more than 7 days
ago. Is it OK to reassign it to ftp.debian.org now?

1604 days: isic (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Tommi Virtanen]
28 popcon installs, of which 23 are 'old'
Potential orphaning bug opened by Frank Lichtenheld more than 7 days ago,
but this should be removed instead (unless there's a maintainer-in-waiting).
OK to reassign bug to ftp.debian.org asking for removal?

1526 days: xa+cv (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Anthony Fok]
Potential removal bug already filed by Marc Brockschmidt more than 7 days
ago. Is it OK to reassign it to ftp.debian.org now?

This package has reverse depends with the same maintainer: xcin2.3.
Is it OK to file a bug against ftp.debian.org to remove that as well?

1358 days: xlander (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Alexander Kotelnikov]
52 popcon installs of which 39 'old', 2 'recent', 1 'nofiles'
Potential orphaning bug opened by Frank Lichtenheld more than 7 days ago,
but this should be removed instead (unless there's a maintainer-in-waiting).
OK to reassign bug to ftp.debian.org asking for removal?

1340 days: trn (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Matthew Vernon]
49 popcon installs of which 32 'old', 1 'recent', 1 'nofiles'
Non-free. Non-free trn4 (provides trn) is substantially better maintained.
Maintainer should probably be warned before removal.

1320 days: gnubg (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Corrin Lakeland]
204 popcon installs of which 153 'old', 8 'recent', 2 'nofiles'
New upstream release two years and two months ago. Multiple build
failure bugs. Maintainer should probably be warned before removal.

1272 days: ttf-larabie (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Erich Schubert]
  Non-free. Actually quite a few installs (353), so I won't suggest removal
  for this one.

1266 days: tuxtype (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Rune B. Broberg]
Copyright issues (see bug 218908). Jeroen wrote "let's see if someone
interested jumps in, otherwise, removal seems to be the best option to me."
-- on 21 June. Someone said that they were trying to make a sponsored
upload on 18 August; I've pinged them.

1210 days: dbskkd-cdb (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Takao KAWAMURA]
  42 popcon installs, 29 'old', 1 'recent'
Potential orphaning bug filed more than 7 days ago by Marc Brockschmidt,
but this should be removed (unless there's a maintainer-in-waiting, of
course). OK to reassign bug to ftp.debian.org asking for removal?

1190 days: nsmon (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Tibor Koleszar]
  14 popcon installs, 9 'old', 1 'recent'
Potential orphaning bug filed more than 7 days ago by Marc Brockschmidt,
but this should be removed (unless there's a maintainer-in-waiting, of
cousre). OK to reassign bug to ftp.debian.org asking for removal?

1181 days: xml-soap (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Takashi Okamoto]
Contrib. Already has a bug to remove it. I filed added information
to try to get it to actually happen, since the ftpmasters (well, Ryan Murray
  actually) had 'moreinfo'ed it.

1162 days: display-dhammapada (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [David Starner]
  33 popcon installs, 25 old, 1 recent
Non-free package in 'main' (bug 285156). Last uploaded 2002. New upstream
version 292 days ago. Adopter is working on it though, so I guess it can
  be left.

1133 days: doc-debian-ko (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Yooseong Yang]
Already has a bug to remove it.
1118 days: xmcpustate (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Thimo Neubauer]
  51 popcon installs, 38 old, 2 recent
3 (!) RC bugs: FTBFS with gcc 3.4 and 4.0. Potential orphaning bug filed
by Marc Brockschmidt more than 7 days ago, but this should be removed
instead. OK to reassign bug to ftp.debian.org asking for removal?

1079 days: thai-system (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Chanop Silpa-Ananead.
Essentially a dummy package, and uninstallable. Last uploaded 2002.
Worthless, utterly worthless. Maintainer should probably be notified before
  removal.

1075 days: r5rs-doc (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Chris Hanson]
Build-depends on scm. Removed from testing in January. Should
be convertible to depend on a different scheme interpreter, but
nobody's done so. I pinged the bug.

--
This raised the issue of scm, which is "maintained" by James LewisMoss
<dres@debian.org>, and is quite seriously suffering from FTBFS bugs.
scm is a good candidate for a forced orphaning -- perhaps someone could file
  a 7-day-warning bug?

Oddly, when I look up dres@debian.org (on
  http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=dres@debian.org), it thinks
his name is Takashi Okamoto. Something is broken here.

1057 days: chdrv (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Anthony Fok]
  8 popcon users, 7 old.
Good old MIA Anthony Fok. 3-year-old grave bug. Should be removed.
Only reverse depends are cpanel and chdrvfont, both 'suggests'.
OK to file a bug against ftp.debian.org for removal?

1030 days: cl-tclink (0 waiting, new pkg, has RC bugs) [Matthew Danish]
  3 popcon installs (all 'nofiles').
Bug requesting transition to libssl0.9.7 open 1 year 124 days. libssl0.9.6
removed 9 August 2005. Should be removed. OK to reassign bug to
  ftp.debian.org for removal?

So, that's more than enough for now. This is all the packages matching the
above criteria which were last uploaded in 2002 (!). The ones last uploaded
in 2003 will wait for another day (2006, perhaps ;-) ).
