Maintainer inactivity on am-utils package: Request to adopt

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi,

The am-utils automounter packages have had no uploads from the maintainer for over a year and a half, and the current maintainer, Philippe Troin, while still active on mailing lists, is not responding to requests about the packages. There are several bugs, with patches supplied, that have been in the BTS for some considerable time, which have not been dealt with, other than by NMU.

Here follows a summary timeline of recent history of the package:

Timeline:

Jul 27 2003: Last upload of the package by the current maintainer

Aug 16 2003: Bug #205794 requesting po-debconf change. No response from Philippe in BTS.

Aug 13 2004: NMU (3.0) by Stephen Quinney <stephen@jadevine.org.uk> fixing #249666

Sep 30 2004: Release Critical bug #274223 filed. No response from Philippe in BTS

Oct 20 2004: Merge of RC #274223 and #276738 by Frank Lichtenheld <djpig@debian.org>. No response from Philippe in BTS.

Nov 26 2004: Philippe allowed me (Tim Cutts) to NMU am-utils. This was the last time I had any contact from Philippe.

Dec 04 2004: NMU (3.1) by Tim Cutts <timc@chiark.greenend.org.uk>

Mar 03 2005: Lucas Wall emails maintainer announcing his intention to NMU. I received a copy of this message because I've subscribed to am-utils bug reports. I responded to Lucas saying that Philippe isn't MIA, but is a little slow responding to email, and that I would talk to him as well, if Lucas didn't get a response.

Mar 10 2005: Last posting I saw from Philippe (on debian-private)

Mar 21 2005: Lucas has still had no reply, so sends his patch for #205794 to me, as the most recent NMU uploader.

Mar 24 2005: I sent another message to Philippe, saying that I had tested the patch, and would upload to the 7-day delayed queue during the Easter weekend, to give him time to remove it if he felt strongly about it. I also offered to adopt the package in this email.

Mar 26 2005: NMU (3.2) to 7-day delayed queue by Tim Cutts.

At the time of this e-mail, I still have not had any response from Philippe, and neither has Lucas, as far as I know. Philippe is still active, within the past couple of weeks, on the Debian mailing lists, so I can only assume that while he is not MIA, he no longer has any interest in maintaining am-utils, and I am hereby formally offering to adopt it.

It's in use on hundreds of machines where I work, so I have a strong incentive for maintaining it!

I imagine the QA team will want to nudge Philippe first, though...

Regards,

Tim
