Subject: pre-depends problem

Package: dpkg-mountable
Version: 0.2

Doing a routine upgrade with dselect and the (awesome) dpkg-mountable
resulted in the following error-message. I presume that this is due to
missing predends support in dpkg-mountable. I would be extremely cool if you
could marry dpkg-mountable with one of the package ordering tools to sort
this out.

dpkg: regarding .../perl_5.003.07-7.deb containing perl, pre-dependency problem:
 perl pre-depends on libdl1
ldso provides libdl1 but is unpacked but not configured.
dpkg: error processing /mirror/debian/unstable/binary-i386/interpreters/perl_5.003.07-7.deb (--unpack):
pre-dependency problem - not installing perl

dpkg-mountable has been removed from Debian unstable and won't be
released with the next official release of Debian, codenamed "woody".

The original maintainer writes:

| * I can no longer test new versions of this package, as I'm using
| apt-zip rather than my not-free dialup access. I wrote it when I
| was accessing the University's NFS archive mirror!
|
| * It's slightly buggy, and badly out-of-date policy-wise.
|
| * Apt now provides (AFAIK) all the features provided by
| dpkg-mountable, and some (such as package ordering) that it never
| got around to getting.

Please switch to apt.

If you have questions about this, please contact me.
