X-Mailer: bug 3.3.4

Package: smail
Version: 3.2.0.111-2
Severity: grave

When sending in pine, I get the error [Mail not sent: .7.1 Permanent
failure logged.]

When I check /var/smail/logfile, I get
08/14/2000 22:30:46: [2151] remote connection from (unknown)[UNKNOWN-IP]
08/14/2000 22:30:46: [2151] remote EHLO: warning: questionable

not permitted to relay mail
08/14/2000 22:30:46: [2151] remote RSET: requested by localhost
08/14/2000 22:30:46: [2151] remote got QUIT from localhost.

This despite having a valid PTR for localhost that works just totally fine
with everything else, including the last stable version of smail. I've
tried tweeking the configs, removing the configs and running smailconfig
again, and just can't get it to work for outbound deliveries at all.

Oddly, local deliveries work fine.
