Partially my fault because I have not done this in a while. Several laptops come with pcmcia based cdroms and their floppies are USB. This means that you can not use the floppy. When you boot off of the cd all is well until you try to access the cd. Because there is no pcmcia and the needed info is on the cd, you are stuck. Only successful install is to use a current OS.
