Package: apt-xapian-index Version: 0.45 Severity: wishlist I was having a conversation with somebody on IRC who was looking for packages that provided mpi alternatives via Debian's update-alternatives. They had mpich2 installed and was looking for all packages that provided alternatives or drop-in replacements for mpich2. Specifically, packages that can be run with update-alternatives to select which mpi library to use. You can use tags to narrow in on the results, but it's rather messy. Another (much less messy) example would be providing alternatives for x-www- browser. I want to find all packages that provide /etc/alternatives/x-www- browser when they're installed. The way that I would do it the way axi-cache is now, would be to start with x11::application and then run axi-cache.. Read the suggests and then I add "AND web::browser".. Run axi-cache again... Then I add "AND scope::application" This finally gives a decent list of ALL the web browser that (as far as I know) provide x-www-browser. However, it would be *FAR* better if I could just axi-cache search alternatives::x-www-browser or something similar to get a list of all application packages that install an alternative for x-www-browser. axi-cache search alternatives::x-window-manager axi-cache search alternatives::x-terminal-emulator axi-cache search alternatives::cpp It would be *VERY* convenient! -- System Information: Debian Release: wheezy/sid APT prefers testing APT policy: (500, 'testing') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 3.2.0-4-686-pae (SMP w/1 CPU core) Locale: LANG=en_US.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=en_US.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/dash Versions of packages apt-xapian-index depends on: ii python 2.7.3~rc2-1 ii python-apt 0.8.4 ii python-debian 0.1.21 ii python-support 1.0.15 ii python-xapian 1.2.12-2 apt-xapian-index recommends no packages.
