Package: wondershaper Version: 1.1a-3 Severity: wishlist 'README.Debian.gz' describes how the user should: STEP 1 Gather data STEP 2 Pre-test STEP 3 Enable the wondershaper STEP 4 Post-test Presumably every time one changes modems or ISPs you'd have to do all that again. It'd be easier if this labor were done by a benchmark script, data from which would then be fed to a configure script. For modem users it's worse, because some dialups are finicky. One day a modem/line might work at 56K, and next day only 33K. Hardcoded settings may cause trouble if the speed changes. What's needed is some kind of on-the-fly benchmarking and autoconfig, perhaps aided by reasonable defaults. That is, if my modem is usually 56K but taps out at 33K, the script would notice and use different settings. Hope this helps... -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.4.24-1-686 Locale: LANG=C, LC_CTYPE=C (ignored: LC_ALL set to C) Versions of packages wondershaper depends on: ii iproute 20010824-13.1 Professional tools to control the -- no debconf information
