Bug#1086591: gnubiff: Verbose output when launched from a terminal
Package: gnubiff
Version: 2.2.17-4+b1
Severity: minor
Tags: newcomer patch
X-Debbugs-Cc: charlescurley@charlescurley.com
Dear Maintainer,
* What led up to the situation?
Running gnubiff from a terminal program
* What exactly did you do (or not do) that was effective (or
ineffective)?
Launched grubiff into the background from a terminal:
gnubiff -n
or
gnubiff -n --systemtray
* What was the outcome of this action?
Verbose output from play whenever it was called to announce a new email. E.g.:
/usr/share/gnubiff/coin.wav:
File Size: 2.03k Bit Rate: 91.0k
Encoding: Unsigned PCM
Channels: 1 @ 8-bit
Samplerate: 11127Hz
Replaygain: off
Duration: 00:00:00.18
In:100% 00:00:00.18 [00:00:00.00] Out:1.99k [!=====|=====!] Clip:0
Done.
* What outcome did you expect instead?
Silent operation
* Suggested workaround: call play with options that quiet it:
play -qV0 /usr/share/gnubiff/coin.wav
This is partially a cosmetic fix (and most users will never see it), but also a small efficiency fix: output not emitted is output the GUI doesn't have to discard.
Thank you.
