Package: libgs9-common
Version: 9.06~dfsg-2+deb8u3
Severity: normal

Dear Maintainer,

In ghostscript-9.06 present in Jessie repository there are no Ukrainian and
Russian glyphs in a number of fonts. Namely, in all the URW family.

These fonts are invisible in LibreOffice, for example.

I checked it using the following command:

$ fc-validate -l uk /usr/share/ghostscript/9.06/Resource/Font/URWBookmanL-Ligh
/usr/share/ghostscript/9.06/Resource/Font/URWBookmanL-Ligh:0 Missing 72
glyph(s) to satisfy the coverage for uk language

$ fc-validate -l ru /usr/share/ghostscript/9.06/Resource/Font/URWBookmanL-Ligh
/usr/share/ghostscript/9.06/Resource/Font/URWBookmanL-Ligh:0 Missing 66
glyph(s) to satisfy the coverage for ru language

I reported this bug upstream:
http://bugs.ghostscript.com/show_bug.cgi?id=697224

however, they answered that everything is allright in the newer Ghostscript
version, and the only way to get this working is to upgrade to the lates
version.

Hello,

I am sorry that no timely action was taken on your report. However, as of
2024, the oldest version shipping in Debian is 9.27 and the upstream bug you
opened indicates things were fixed in 9.20.

Moreover, I checked the coverage remains present in ghostscript 10.02.1
(below), so closing this bug.

$ fc-validate -l uk  /usr/share/ghostscript/10.02.1/Resource/Font/URWBookman-
Light
/usr/share/ghostscript/10.02.1/Resource/Font/URWBookman-Light:0 Satisfy the
coverage for uk language

$ fc-validate -l ru  /usr/share/ghostscript/10.02.1/Resource/Font/URWBookman-
Light
/usr/share/ghostscript/10.02.1/Resource/Font/URWBookman-Light:0 Satisfy the
coverage for ru language
