Package: sysvinit Version: 2.86-1 Severity: normal I discovered this problem casually. After removing ldap configuration (i.e. its pam configuration) I erroneously left back nsswitch.conf as follows: passwd: ldap compat group: ldap compat shadow: ldap compat Since then, halt started to misteriously fail with a segfault (kernel 2.4.27) or hanging for ever (kernel 2.6.7,8). Apparently this is due to a weak implementation in NSS, but anyway I'm reporting this to sysvinit because it's the only set of tools which apparently gives important problems due to the issue. The problem should be easily reproducible I think, so I'm not including stracing or what else here. -- System Information: Debian Release: 3.1 APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (500, 'testing'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.8-1-686 Locale: LANG=it_IT@euro, LC_CTYPE=it_IT@euro Versions of packages sysvinit depends on: ii coreutils 5.2.1-2 The GNU core utilities ii initscripts 2.86-1 Standard scripts needed for bootin ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-16 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an ii sysv-rc 2.86-1 Standard boot mechanism using syml -- no debconf information
