In the meantime I have checked the new driver sources, and found
that the new drivers do not register the special "misc" device
varmon relies on.
I would find it highly unlikely that varmon can work at all with any
4.x or 5.x kernel.
Therefore I'm marking this bug as serious, as I believe varmon is of
zero use in bookworm and forward.
Thanks,
Chris
