Package: polipo Version: 0.9.4-2 Severity: important If I tell polipo to use its internal DNS server, all web access fails with a DNS failure. If I look at the online config page I see that polipo thinks my DNS server is 127.0.0.1, which is fair enough given my resolv.conf but incorrect: ---- nameserver 127.0.0.1 nameserver 192.168.10.1 search local ---- The name server on 127.0.0.1 is a zeroconf nameserver and only resolves *.local names, for all other names it returns a failure and gethostbyname() tries the next available server, 192.168.10.1, which does work. It appears that polipo does not try the next available name server and simply returns an error. I have verified this experimentally by turning on dnsUseGethostbyname in polipo, at which point polipo becomes usable. Obviously I'd like to be able to turn this off in the future. -- System Information: Debian Release: testing/unstable APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable'), (1, 'experimental') Architecture: i386 (i686) Kernel: Linux 2.6.4-1-k7 Locale: LANG=en_GB, LC_CTYPE=en_GB Versions of packages polipo depends on: ii libc6 2.3.2.ds1-12 GNU C Library: Shared libraries an -- no debconf information
