This sounds like a reasonable explanation, thanks Nuno for investigating
ths.
While technically, nis is not "my package", I can make a follow-up
upload which updates /etc/default/nis accordingly.

Bertrand, Thomas, can you confirm that removing "--no-dbus" fixes the
issue for you as well?
