Same here, running debian sid/testing with gnome and using gnome-shell.I was able to keep the timidity and timidity-daemon packages installed by reconfiguring them with dpkg and reinstalling them again. I spend hours to find the reason for the muted soundsystem, telling me the output would be a dummy and that no other devices are available. Thanks a lot for your report!
