The version of DevIL currently in Debian (1.5.5) has a bug that makes
it segfault when loading DDS files (at least segfaults when loading DDS
files from Ogre distribution). Version 1.5.7 does not have the problem
(I tested by building 1.5.7 locally.)

1.5.5 also has some strange incompatibilities with libxerces25 (used to
parse and load Ogre/CEGUI overlays) but I was not able to dignose the
exact problem. Anyway, even this problem goes away when building with
1.5.7.

If you don't have the time right now I'll be glad to apply the current
Debian diff, fix any discrepancies, rebuild and upload as NMU. Just let
me know what you like better.
