--- Begin Message --- Package: qtparted
Version: 0.4.5-2
Severity: normal

I am trying to use qtparted to move a partition on an USB key.

This is qtparted 0.4.5-2 from Debian GNU/Linux "lenny" (testing)

I start qtparted by typing "qtparted" as root in a xterm and qtparted starts up properly. It says "qtparted v0.4.5--cvs" in the title bar of its window. It sees my three devices: /dev/hda, /dev/sda, /dev/sdb

I'd like to move a partition on /dev/sdb which is an USB key.

When I click /dev/sdb in qtparted, I get the following message in my xterm:
Error: The file system is bigger than its volume!

qtparted then shows a little window called "Progress"
(take a look at the screenshot attached)
That little window displays a progress bar. The progress bar goes very fast from 0% to 100% (between one and two seconds). Then qtparted freezes. Here's what qtparted says in the Progress window when it is frozen:
Current operation: Scanning all disk partitions.
Time Left:
Progress: 100%

There is a OK button in the window, but it is greyed. I tried clicking on it but nothing happens.
To get rid of the frozen qtparted, I have to type "kill PID" where PID is qtparted's process id. Normal kill though, not kill -9.

Here is the partition table on the USB key:
[root@cobra] /mnt/data/debian-live-images>fdisk -l /dev/sdb
Disk /dev/sdb: 2013 MB, 2013265920 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 244 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
Disk identifier: 0x000ef48e

Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
   /dev/sdb1   *           1         101      811251   83  Linux

This USB key is actually a bootable Debian system generated by Debian Live. The live-helper created the binary.img for me, then I just did:
[root@cobra] /mnt/data/debian-live-images>dd if=binary.img of=/dev/sdb

Note that everything on the key was created by Debian Live: the MBR, the partition table, and the first partition
