I don't say "adopt the package" but "prepare a QA upload" that means
to do a one-time upload, under the QA team umbrela to fix problems
with orphaned packages; google for it and you'll find several
references.

so you do care to fix this bug at least, that warrants a QA upload, IMO

wrong. prepare the pacakge, upload to mentors.debian.net and then sent
a RFS mail on debian-mentors@lists.debian.org ; here too google for
those bits of information for additional references.
