hello!

the reason for no login is not protocol change but
server reject. its description can be found at
http://www.licq.org/ticket/1637

generally the best for etch will be to have a
"security" update pushed down the Debian
infrastructure in order to have the client version
changed. same could be done for lenny and sid.
