Can you reproduce this all the time? Maybe your audio device was locked by other application... I can open muine and use it without a problem. Actually I have banshee paused right now and muine is playing. Can you try again after just having logged in? Check that there are no other applications using your sound device, or try using a sound daemon like pulseaudio.
