the problem is due to glade not connecting signals for those buttons, as is seen by the warnings:

This bug is marked as important, but IMHO is actually grave & RC: the
program is (*) unusable if no wallpapers cannot be added.
(*, yes, I saw that the original submitter was using gconfeditor to
add them... but this is not something other people would be doing )
