as the package description of gdkxft says,

>*** THIS WILL CAUSE APPLICATIONS TO CRASH, DIE, LOSE INFORMATION, AND
>OTHER NASTY EFFECTS.  DON'T USE THIS IF YOU WANT STABILITY ***

your problem is probably a gdkxft issue.

Please try without it and report what happened.
