Package: dnsutils
Severity: normal
Version: 8.2.3
Synopsis: Bad parsing of resolv.conf
Class: sw-bug

Distribution: Debian 2.2
System: Linux 2.2.17 i686 unknown

Description:
Hello,

According to the resolv.conf manpage one can put in this file:

search domain1 domain2

But then the command host only try the first domain (domain1)

If we split the search line :

search domain1
search domain2

then the command host works correctly:

suggested solution: change the manpage or review the file parser of
/usr/bin/host

Cheers,

Sebastien Chaumat

Followup-For: Bug #95110
Package: host
Version: 20000331-3

Only the syntax 'search domain1 domain2 domain3 ...' is correct.
It was the wish of host's author to make host search only on fully
qualified domain names (and by extension, only on the 'domain' or
  first 'search' domain of resolv.conf).

There is a documented option to the host command which allows you to
go through all the listed domains : -R.

Hope this solves your problem ...
