The current description of host simply says:

But this still doesn't explain which links it installs and their
purpose. Altough a bit longer description like the first paragraph of
the description of the manpage would be nice.

We believe that the bug you reported is fixed in the latest version of
host, which is due to be installed in the Debian FTP archive:
