And, of course, many programs that are written with the intent of
being used with Jython probably use Java classes or Swing which
obviously don't work with CPython.

Most pure python scripts/programs should work as long as they don't
depend on  a) C extensions,  b) os module specific stuff (much of that
is inaccessible from Java),  and c) depend on implementation-specific
details that are not specified in the Ref Man.
